  • Safety Town

    For students entering kindergarten this fall. Safety Town is an educational program introducing safety awareness and preventive practices to young children. Some of the topics covered include safety around strangers, fire, water, buses, traffic, and poison. Children will have an opportunity to learn through experiences in the Safety Town village, a field trip to the West Des Moines Police and Fire departments, and a variety of classroom activities. Registration Deadline A $25 late registration fee will be charged if you register less than one week before the program’s start date. Cancellation Policy If you are unable to take the class you can request a refund before the second day of class. There will be a $25 deduction from any refunds except programs canceled by Community Ed. Behavior Guidelines Please remember that participation in Community Education programs is voluntary. Students are expected to act respectfully throughout their participation. Community Education reserves the right to remove a student from a program at any time if they display inappropriate or unsafe behaviors.
  • Safety Town Volunteering, Grades 6-7

    For students entering grades 6-7 Safety Town volunteers assist young students as they are introduced to safety awareness and preventative practices through a variety of interactive activities. Volunteer Requirements You enjoy working with children. You are finishing fifth or sixth grade this year. You accept the responsibility of personally assisting four pre-kindergarten children during each day of the session for which you volunteer. You must be present every day. You attend a volunteer orientation meeting on Tuesday, May 7,from 4:45-5:15 p.m. in the gym at Jordan Creek Elementary, 4105 Fuller Road, West Des Moines.
