Safety Town Volunteering, Grades 6-7
For students entering grades 6-7Safety Town volunteers assist young students as they are introduced to safety awareness and preventative practices through a variety of interactive activities.Volunteer Requirements You enjoy working with children. You are finishing fifth or sixth grade this year. You accept the responsibility of personally assisting four pre-kindergarten children during each day of the session for which you volunteer. You must be present every day. You attend a volunteer orientation meeting on Tuesday, May 9, from 4:45-5:15 p.m. in the gym at Jordan Creek Elementary, 4105 Fuller Road, West Des Moines.
For students entering kindergarten this fallSafety Town is an educational program introducing safety awareness and preventive practices to young children. Some of the topics covered include safety around strangers, fire, water, buses, traffic, and poison. Children will have an opportunity to learn through experiences in the Safety Town village, a field trip to the West Des Moines Police and Fire departments, and a variety of classroom activities.Cancellation PolicyIf you are unable to take the class you can request a refund before the second day of class. There will be a $25 deduction from any refunds except programs canceled by Community Ed.
