Safety Town is an educational program introducing safety awareness and preventative practices to young children. Some of the topics covered include safety around strangers, fire, water, buses, traffic, and poison. Children will have an opportunity to learn through experiences in the Safety Town village, a field trip to the West Des Moines Police and Fire departments, and a variety of classroom activities.
Registration for students outside of the West Des Moines school district, opens on Monday, May 2nd.

Safety Town Volunteering
Safety Town Volunteers assist young students as they are introduced to safety awareness and preventative practices through a variety of activities. Volunteer Requirements are: 1. You are finishing fifth or sixth grade this year. 2. You accept the responsibility of personally assisting four pre-kindergarten children during each day of the session. 3. You schedule must allow you to be present every day. 4. You attend a volunteer orientation meeting on Monday, May 9th from 4:30 -5:00pm. In the gym at Western Hills Elementary. 5. You only sign up for one session, due to the demand for this opportunity. 6. You are a WDMCS student. This program introduces safety awareness, and preventative practice to young children. Some of the topics covered include safety around strangers, fire, water, buses, traffic, and poison. Children will have an opportunity to learn through experiences in the Safety Town Village, a field trip to the West Des Moines Police and Fire departments and a variety of classroom activities.
